Family Group Decision Making

Strengthening the Plan

The family presents its plan to the reconvened larger group. The purpose is to strengthen the plan by resourcing unmet needs. When the plan has been reinforced, it is accepted by the caseworker. In families with juvenile court involvement, the case plan is presented to the court as well. Most jurisdictions report a very high degree of court concurrence with the plan.

The group plans for follow-up. While monitoring falls to the case-carrying worker and/or family members, the group may decide to reconvene in a specific amount of time, if a critical event occurs or prior to the next court hearing. The group leaves with a written plan and agreement for follow-up.
